Godot has been used in high-profile games such as the Sonic Colors: Ultimate remaster, published by Sega last year as the first major mainstream game powered by Godot. Today, Godot claims some 1,500 contributors, and is considered one of the world’s top open source projects by various metrics. Godot, for the uninitiated, is a cross-platform game engine first released under an open source license back in 2014, though its initial development pre-dates that by several years. I'm not really good in godot but that's at least how I manage my scenes/nodes. If it feels right to you to put something somewhere it probably is, if it doesen't, put it somewhere else where it feels maybe a bit less awkward. So it depends on you how you like things structured.

You can make scenes generic by firing events in your scenes root element and you can use export to make them configurable. You can use scenes to simplify your root scene. (at least as long as you stay around some thousand nodes) You can use them as much as you want, they don't really have a negative impact on performance for example. Generally the useage of nodes and scenes in godot is up to you.

I would say it's relatively easy to learn and for 2D, and not to ambitious 3D projects, probably the best way to do things.
